About Us
The Bridge offers high-quality housing for students in a superb location right in the centre of Guildford providing easy access to your college or university, train and bus stations, shops and night life.
We aren’t affiliated to any single university or college but have strong links with all eight local providers of further and higher education in our area. We accept residents from 16 years of age.
Provided your course runs the length of your licence agreement then you are welcome to stay here, whether it’s a full academic year from September to July, or a short stay such as for a placement.
We offer three contract lengths: 50 weeks, 44 weeks or 39 weeks. Please select the length required when booking.
We offer a 24 hours, seven days a week concierge as well as freshly made breakfast and supper in the Bridge Kitchen, laundry facilities, a music practice room and two more cinema rooms.
Transforming Lives
The Bridge Rooms and Kitchen are run by the team at YMCA Guildford who are a part of YMCA DownsLink Group, a charity working to transform communities across Sussex and Surrey so that all young people and families can belong, contribute and thrive.
There has been a YMCA in Guildford since 1856 and today we continue that work within the town and surrounding area by providing a range of services for young people including support and advice, accommodation, family work, health and wellbeing, and training and education.
This means that every night you stay at The Bridge you will be helping to transform the lives of vulnerable young people living in the Guildford area.
The Bridge Kitchen
At The Bridge Kitchen we are passionate about our food. Located at the rear of our Bridge Street building in Guildford, the Kitchen overlooks the river and provides a great place to catch your breath, relax and unwind.
We serve barista-style coffee, homemade cakes, and freshly cooked hearty dishes as well as salads, wraps, and sandwiches, all prepared by our professional chefs.
Giving Back
By choosing the bridge kitchen you are supporting your local community. The bridge kitchen and the bridge rooms are run as an independent commercial business by the team at YMCA Downslink group. In this building we house young students who are studying locally.
All profits we generated the bridge kitchen and the bridge rooms are invested into our YMCA supported accommodation project at our new purpose built site in Wharf Road (near the Guildford cricket ground) offering 34 bedrooms, as well as providing advice and guidance to our young people.
So, every sip supports local young people who are at risk of homelessness. In the bridge kitchen we have the availability to offer supported residents paid work or roles as volunteers, so they can ultimately gain invaluable work experience in the hospitality sector as they transition into paid employment.
Suppliers
We are proud to serve coffee supplied by Caffe Praego, an ethical coffee bean supplier who gives back to the communities from which they buy their coffee.
Where possible we try to source our ingredients from local suppliers.
Events & Groups
We can cater for a range of events at The Bridge Kitchen.
If you are looking for somewhere to hold a luncheon, a work meeting, or a group activity then we’d love to talk to you about how we could cater to your exact needs. We can also provide a selection of food appropriate for your event.
If you are looking for somewhere for your group to meet – book club, knitting circle, etc – we can happily accommodate you. The Bridge Kitchen is spacious and accessible.
