Covid-19 latest
Overview
We have taken and continue to take appropriate precautions against the coronavirus pandemic.
We have followed Public Health England guidelines and implemented precautionary measures in line with the published guidelines for residential accommodation and cafes.
As the situation changes we will continue to follow the government guidance and YMCA Downslink policy to ensure we keep our residents, customers and staff safe.
Specific measures we have introduced include:
- Social distancing and wearing masks in public areas
- Additional cleaning of common areas and high touch surfaces seven days/ week
- Temperatures checks for residents, visitors, and staff
- Provision of hand sanitiser
- Supporting residents who need to self-isolate or fall unwell including taking meals to rooms
- Limiting the numbers of residents eating breakfast and supper together to household bubbles
- Temporarily suspending student guests/visitors to the bridge with the exception of essential maintenance, viewings, emergency situations or one household member to assist with moving in/out
- Ensuring communal areas such as cinema and music rooms, and kitchenettes, comply with government restrictions
- One way, and other guidelines in certain parts of the building where space is restricted
Modifications to Arrival and Check-in Process
When you arrive at the Bridge for the first time to check-in we will ensure check-in times for residents are staggered so that the process is socially distanced and there are no large groups.
You will still be welcomed to the bridge by a member of staff as we feel this is an important part of settling in and feeling at home, but if you prefer the process can be done remotely.
If you are travelling from abroad and need to self-isolate on arrival in the UK please talk to us at least three weeks before you arrive as we can arrange to support this process. We can provide three meals / day to your room and additional support you may need.
If you have to self-isolate
We will bring breakfast and supper to your room at the usual times.
We can also provide lunch for which a small charge will be made as this Is not usually provided (from £3/day for a sandwich deal, to a hot meal with the price dependent on resident’s choice).
If you feel isolated
It is important to look after your mental health as well as physical health and stay connected.
Your rent includes unlimited internet access so you can contact family and friends.
If you feel you need extra support, our front desk is manned 24/7 and they can provide a friendly face to help you contact your University wellbeing / safeguarding teams, call the charity Mind (Mental Health) on 0845 766 0163 or visit Student Minds for advice and guidance.
The Bridge Kitchens
We will continue serving a hot breakfast Monday – Friday and hot meals every evening. At weekends we will provide a continental breakfast for residents with grab and go option. It may be necessary to serve meals on a staggered basis, with residents being allocated a time slot for their evening meal, we will communicate details of this arrangement at the time
We will review the situation regularly and update as required. The safety of residents and staff remains our top priority.
